A great Advent!

I suppose that the countdown for Christmas is on!

Less than a month to go! And of course, to whet the appetite, last Saturday I went to see the "Nutcracker" by the  Russian Classical ballet.

The Nutcracker was always the ballet whose story and music inhabited my childhood imagination. Tchaikosvky created such a beautiful piece which is and will always be my Christmas soundtrack.

I have to admit that I always look forward to this holiday, for the cosiness that it inspires in me, for the beauty of every single decoration, the smells, the food and even the good friends who are working and studying abroad and are coming back home.

I do know that many people don’t like Christmas at all, mainly because they consider it to be an excuse for consumption and nothing else… Well, although we can all be marketing targets, we are also responsible for our choices and actions, leaving each of us to decide and chose the way they want to live and embrace the Christmas spirit.

For me Christmas is the beauty of the old tradition and of the family reunion, but it’s also time for reflection and meditation about myself, about the world, and how I can be a better and more useful person in the forthcoming year.

This future month of December will be dedicated to Christmas, hopefully with some useful recipes and tips for your holiday. For those who follow me from abroad, I will also give you a glimpse of what a Christmas in Portugal can be.

A contagem decrescente para o Natal começou!

Encontramo-nos a menos de um mês e, para abrir o apetite, no Sábado passado fui ver o “Quebra-Nozes” pela Russian Classical ballet.

Este bailado sempre fez parte do meu imaginário infantil; o Tchaikosvky criou uma peça musical fabulosa que sempre constituiu, e irá constituir, a minha banda sonora de Natal!

Devo admitir que me encontro sempre ansiosa por esta quadra, seja pelo conforto que me inspira, pela beleza dos ornamentos, pelos cheiros ou pela comida, mas também por significar o regresso de muitos amigos queridos que se encontram a trabalhar e estudar fora de Portugal…

Bem sei que muitas pessoas não gostam, de todo, do Natal, especialmente por considerarem uma festividade dedicada ao consumo e a nada mais… Bem, apesar de todos podermos ser alvos do marketing natalício, também somos responsáveis pelas nossas escolhas e acções, e pela forma como procuramos e escolhemos viver o espírito da época.

Para mim o Natal é a beleza das tradições antigas e da reunião familiar e, ao mesmo tempo, um momento de reflexão e meditação em torno de mim mesma, do mundo e da forma como me posso tornar um instrumento melhor e mais válido no ano vindouro.

Assim, neste mês de Dezembro que se avinha, irei dedicar-me ao Natal com receitas e dicas que espero serem uteis.

Para os que me seguem no estrangeiro, espero dar-vos a conhecer um pouco das tradições natalícias em Portugal.

E atendendo ao facto de um blog ser um espaço de partilha, gostaria então de ouvir as vossas ideias e opiniões acerca do vosso Natal e do que esta quadra significa para vocês.
